Treatment Expertise

The Life Center of Galax is accredited by JCAHO and licensed by the State of Virginia. Staff at the center includes doctors, family therapists, nurses, certified addiction therapists and expert peripheral program workers. We have been helping people recover from addiction with compassion and success for over 30 years, and we are proud to offer a complete continuum of care, in-house.

Beginning with medical detox (if needed) and extending beyond inpatient treatment to multiple outpatient and aftercare options, clients coming to us are assured of  our long standing interest and commitment in their recovery process. Once you've recovered with us, you become a member of our alumni network, and will participate for life in recovery events and social gatherings.

Therapeutic Program

Clients do not come to The Life Center of Galax for a one size fits all program of recovery. Treatment takes as long as it takes, with discharge occurring only after patients display readiness, and is not based on a pre specified time limit. Treatment for every client begins with an extremely comprehensive evaluation. We need to get to know you and your problems so we can start helping. Evaluation protocols include:

• A physical evaluation
• Psychological testing
• Vocational reviews
• A medical history
• Interviews with friends and family for confirmation of self reports

Once we've come to understand the problem, we work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that meets your individual needs. As a group, we develop treatment goals from which we measure the success of the process.

Therapeutic program options available to clients include:

• Cognitive behavioral therapy – Learning new ways to think and act to replace self defeating and negative propagating patterns of the past.

• Reality Therapy – A structured group confrontational therapy designed to reduce an addict's ability to deny the truth of the problem.

• Experiential therapy – Assists clients in working through traumatic memories of the past that continue to influence our actions of today.

• Leisure time activities – Teaches clients how to enjoy themselves once again without needing to get drunk or high.

• Single gender groups – Allow for more focused therapy on the issues relevant to men or women.

• Family therapy – Family members are invited to come every weekend for family therapy, multi therapy family and educational seminars. Family can be an invaluable tool in the recovery process.

Because addiction recovery occurs far beyond the time spent in a residential treatment program, clients at The Life Center of Galax are immersed in 12 steps meetings and study while in residence, introducing them to a recovery organization that will provide strength and solace for a lifetime.

The Dual Diagnosis Program

Every client receives holistic treatment; for people battling an addiction as well as a mental health disorder, this integrated provision of treatment offers the best chance for as successful recovery.

We have decades of experience in the treatment of dual diagnosis patients, and can offer to those in need:

• Psychiatric and psychological testing
• Psychiatric symptoms medication management
• Continuing therapy with a psychiatrist during treatment

Specialty Track Programs

Cocaine Addiction Program

A special program track for those recovering from a cocaine addiction; in which in addition to standard therapeutics, cocaine addicts will work on issues such as the psychological legacy of cocaine use, the management of cravings and maintaining an emotional balance as a recovery tool against relapse.

Opiate Program

The Life Center of Galax offers one of the south's most well regarded opiate addiction treatment programs.

DUI Alternative to Incarceration Program

A 7 to 14 day residential program for DUI offenders referred to treatment as an alternative to jail time.

Outpatient and Day Treatment Programs

The Life Center of Galax offers a full spectrum of outpatient treatment options, from occasional therapy/family therapy, to more structured outpatient programs to full day addiction treatment support.
