Sunhawk Recovery helps teens get back on the right path. Teens struggling with alcohol and drug abuse and addiction put normal development in peril and need strong intervention to ensure their safety and lasting happiness. At Sunhawk, our team of clinical professionals integrates an impressive array of therapeutics and academics into a recovery model designed to create lasting change.

The program is open to teens from the ages of 13 to 17 (dual diagnosis welcome) and is located in spectacular St. George Utah.

Sunhawk is based on positive reinforcement and internal motivation for change. It is not a boot camp.

The Sunhawk Guarantee

At Sunhawk we aim to make a positive difference in the life of a troubled teen. We boast an experienced multi disciplinary team of clinical professionals and offer an intensive academic and therapeutic program of recovery. Our program works and we stand by it.

Any student who relapses within 12 months of graduation may return for 45 days of "refresher therapy". Refresher therapy is offered at no cost.

Sunhawk is one of very few adolescent treatment centers to offer such a guarantee.

Therapy

Each student will receive an individualized treatment plan, developed and modified as needed by the treatment team, which includes:

• A Psychiatrist
• Certified addiction counselors
• Master's level therapists
• A registered nurse and nursing assistants
• A pediatrician

Each student will receive weekly individual and family therapy as well as 28 hours per week of group therapy.

Clinical research shows that for adolescents, few therapeutic interventions can match the power of group therapy. Teens tend to place more weight on the opinions and perspectives of peers than on adults, and so therapist guided recovery exchanges within a peer group can provoke real and lasting change.

Academics

Sunhawk is accredited by both the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and The National Association of Addiction treatment Providers. Academic credits earned at Sunhawk are transferable to home schools and many students use their time here for accelerated credit recovery, to make up for academic under performance in the period prior to program entry.

Academic staff opens a dialogue with the home school and reviews past achievements and records to construct an appropriate and tailored education plan. Within the first month of arrival, each student will receive a battery of intelligence and learning tests, to reveal preferred learning styles, academic deficiencies and strengths.

Students at Sunhawk have the opportunity to earn a full semester's academic credits while in residence.

Positive Reinforcement

Sunhawk is a not a boot camp like program. We treat students with respect, dignity and compassion and use modeling and positive reinforcement to encourage prosocial and appropriate adolescent behaviors.

Students are rewarded for positive behavior within a level system. Positive behavior earns teens advancement to a next level, and at each successive level, students earn increasing rights and freedoms.

Life at Sunhawk

Students at Sunhawk stay in very comfortable single gender rooms and participate in very full days of therapy and academics. Time not spent engaged in either healing or learning is spent enjoying one of the many recreational or cultural events offered within the program or area. Some recreational activities available at Sunhawk include:

• A ropes course
• Tai Chi, yoga or meditation

• Attending sporting events
• Going bowling or hitting the movie theater (supervised)
• Skiing or snowboarding
• Hiking or camping trips to nearby state and national parks

Family Participation

Parents play an integral role in the adolescent treatment process and so parents of adolescents at Sunhawk are invited to attend 2 weekend long family workshops during a course of stay.

1. The first 2 day workshop educates parents about addiction and the process of addiction treatment
2. The second 2 day workshop is geared at discharge and transition planning

Aftercare

Graduates of Sunhawk will participate in 6 months of continuing aftercare through e-GetGoing, our online continuing care treatment program (run by certified addiction counselors). This aftercare therapy is offered at no additional cost.

Financial Assistance and Loans

Some students may be eligible for financial assistance, please inquire with admissions counselors.

Parents may choose to apply for behavioral healthcare financing, to defer the upfront costs of treatment into manageable monthly payments, which can be as low as $700.
